I've been volunteering at a facility that helps elderly people at risk for institutionalization for a few days now, and they tell me I have to dress up. I'm not upset about it. I've always preferred to overdress than to underdress. When I was about four, my mom had an exact replica of Belle's yellow (Beauty and the Beast) ball gown made for me by a seamstress for Halloween. I wore it whenever I watched the movie, and I always begged my mom to let me wear it out. My argument always was "but Mommy, I want to look pretty!" To which my sweet, sweet momma bear responded, "You don't need that dress to look pretty, sugar." I wore that dress until it actually ripped because I had grown too big for it.

Very Silly Factual Poem

Three years old and in the park, I used to chase ducks,
I wanted to keep one, but they'd always run amuck
They'd run to the left, in a circle; to the right, in a square
They'd run towards the water thinking I'd stop there,
My father always snatched me up before I could fall in.
You see, I hadn't realized I knew not how to swim.

Leopard print has definitely got to be one of my all time favorite animal prints. Zebra may come in and out of style, giraffe may have its moment; but leopard is classic. This predator print has been used since the cavemen days, and it shows no signs of ever being out of fashion. The lovely thing about leopard is that it's actually a neutral! You can pair it with just about any color, and it will look great. I have a particular fondness for leopard and electric blue together. The key is not to overdo it. You shouldn't wear more than one leopard piece at a time. And don't go crazy and wear a bunch of jungle inspired jewelry with it as well. You're dressing up, not wearing a costume! I actually met a wealthy elderly woman who was dressed in a skin tight, all leopard outfit, red lipstick, and all kinds of diamond encrusted jungle cat jewelry. She was a lovely woman, but I must admit I found her outfit a bit distracting. I loved that she was so brave, but I was also unsure if perhaps her style muscle had atrophied. I won't find out until I'm older, I suppose.
What exactly is it that happens to us anyway? Do we become so confident and stubborn about what we want to wear that we cast aside all possible judgement and brazenly walk out the door in whatever we feel like , or are our faculties compromised with the weight of age?

Puppy Rescue

puppy, rescue,cute, adorable
Today started off as a normal day. Got up, brushed my teeth yadda yadda, went to school. Did some homework, hung out with Mark (we carpool to school and it was my turn to pick him up today). We had to make a few stops along the way, so we took a little longer to get home. As I drew closer to Mark's house, we saw this adorable little dog scurrying away from a car. He looked so lost and frightened. It looked like a puppy to me. Kind of like a mix between a labrador and a pomeranian without that annoying little bark. I have nothing against pomeranians, but the ones I've met bark a whole lot! Anyway, Mark scooped this little sweetheart up and took it home. He checked to see if it was a boy or a girl, but not very thoroughly apparently because we were under the very mistaken impression that it was a he and even named "him" Chaplin (Chap for short). It wasn't until we started bathing her that we found out it was a girl. Now I don't know what to call her, and I think she might be stuck with Chap haha. I don't think we can keep her, which makes me terribly sad. She was too clean and too well behaved to be a stray. Obviously, she had no collar. We're going to make flyers and put them up all over the area. Hopefully someone claims her! I'd hate to have to take her to a shelter :[

Blog Goals!

Alright guys, I know you've been putting up with my constant blog layout changes for the past few weeks. I've been trying to find exactly what I like; and I think this layout is it! I finally figured out a few crucial, but tiny details (like the right image size I need ugh!) and I'm going to start having my pictures hosted by photobucket. Just a few little changes, but this is something my little blog needed! My next project? Grab buttons! Thank you for the inspiration Jacqueline! Anything you guys would like to see here? More recipes? More nail art? Tell me what you like the most and I'll do what I can :]

Beauty and the Beast Library Scene

belle green dress
Went to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D with my mom today! I never ever get to go to the movies with my mom, so for us it was a big deal. I knew since the commercials started airing that I wanted to wear this green dress because it reminds me of the scene where Beast gives Belle the castle library. This was always my favorite of Belle's dresses when I was younger. It captivated me. I can't even begin to express how much of a Disney fan I am. I was running around the house this morning like a little kid on Christmas morning because I knew I was going to be watching this movie at 2:00 in the afternoon! In retrospect, I feel incredibly foolish, but at the moment all the running, jumping and squealing was sweet release!

P.S. I love wearing this bag so much, simply because of the amazing price I snagged it for! I got it at a Goodwill in Texas when I visited my aunt in 2009 for $25! I thought, perhaps it's a fake; but it was so real! The handle color faded just right, the leather was rich, the hardware was heavy, and the stitching was bright yellow. If it was a fake, it was surely convincing! Turns out, it's real! I was so excited when I found out! Just goes to show, you never know what you can find in a thrift store ;]

Khussa Slippers

You don't know this about me, but I love observing the style of different countries/nations in different time periods. I go through these silly phases where I only want to cook Japanese food and I want to wear my makeup similar to the looks in Memoirs of a Geisha (minus the white base of course). I'll take little subtle things and try to work them into my world. Currently, my obsession is with khussa slippers. These slippers are produced in India and Pakistan. They are all handcrafted, and come in the most beautiful colors I've ever seen. I went on this wild search for my own pair of these lovely slippers. I bought the grey ones at the end, but now I'm in love with the maroon ones. Oh what to do! You can find these slippers on eBay, or you can find them here or here

There are so many beautiful customs and traditions in other countries. I wish we were taught these things in school. I know I can take a class if I want to, but college isn't cheap and these are things I feel are worth learning. I'd love to be able to be polite in any country I visit, and to be familiar with their fashion. Maybe these are just things I'm into and no one else here really cares. Even so, I am afflicted with wanderlust and I am just itching to go somewhere far away and exotic. Somewhere beautiful where I can learn about people who are different from me.

HaircutHaircut!!

Because you always need one awkward picture of me not paying attention.

I got a haircut today! Went to the salon with my mom. (We have matching bags and shoes and we both wore them today haha) It was a nice mother-daughter sort of day. We did some dirty work this morning (cleaned the whole house!), and we had been looking forward to this hair appointment for weeks! After a nice shower, we rushed over and this was the result. My mom looked great (as usual). She has perfect hair. I didn't luck out and get her thick gorgeous locks. I ended up with my dad's super fine curly hair, but I'd say it looks pretty decent now that I've got some layers and a fringe! After our fancy hair appointment, we had to return to reality and get all the grocery shopping done. So, essentially we got all dressed up and got our hair did so the people at the super market could enjoy it haha. It was still a great day, but now I'm a bit tired and the ice cream sandwiches we bought are calling my name!

Guest Post from Samantha of Le'Love

Today I've set up a guest post swap with Samantha of Le'Love. She has a beautiful blog you definitely want to visit! Today she's going to tell us about Australian fashion and we're going to learn about some great Aussie designers! Here's what she has to say:

Ten Australian and New Zealand Labels you Need to Know About.

People outside of Australia tend to think that us Aussies get around in bikinis with bleach blonde hair and a tan. Misconceptions are rampant. In fact, I am betting that most Australians think that those in New Zealand only wear woolen clothes, but I am also betting we are dead wrong.

I can’t describe with any accuracy what the essence of Australian style is, so I’ll let these 10 labels from Australia and our cousin, New Zealand, speak for me. From street to catwalk these labels sure are rockin’. By no means is this list definitive but each of them have a place in my dream wardrobe.

Vintage Floral Nails

I guess you could say I don't believe in winter. I found this nifty tutorial on youtube and this was the result. I used all essie colors (by accident haha) mint candy apple, beach party for the pink/white stripes, cantaloupe for the petals, and bordeaux for the centers on the flowers.
